Obama Gets Tough on Republicans

With a vote on Obama's stimulus package schedule for tonight, the President spoke with the same conviction and passion that had driven his campaign in calling for a stop to obstructionism and the status quo.

Obama pointed to the early success in passing equal pay legislation and child health care legislation while coming down hard on Republicans who advocate "the same tired arguments and worn ideas that helped to create this crisis."

See the highlights here:

More coverage is availabe in the full clip of the President's address from yesterday. Well worth the watch:

Sadly, it's just like in the movies. Many people in this country are still dumb enough to believe good things are coming when they are offered 40 acres and a mule.

I've been reading many comments about this stimulus bill and I don't see ANYONE talking about what is really going on here.

Our elected officials are telling us the American people to go out and spend money. What are we going to buy? a bunch a "China" made crap…..So saver "Nations", like China and Japan can keep making stuff for us to buy! And they can SAVE their money and buy our "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" Treasury Bills.

WAKE UP PEOPLE……………………..
WAKE POLITICIANS………………………

I hear these politicians saying "this bill is not perfect". Can we the American people elect our politicians and make sure they can get ONE bill through congress thats PERFECT!

Hey, We can perfectly land men on the moon, Why can't our elecected officials get a stimulus bill through congress thats PERFECT!!

What would the criteria be for a perfect bill that has to address millions of unemployed, a protectionist economy that has allowed inefficient american companies (ie auto makers) to produce ill equipped products, a massive trade imbalance, farcicle health care, an education system that scarcely qualifies as first world, colonial foreign policy, chronic debt, and ludicrously unsustainable energy policy?

Hello and good morning,

I heard a lot of things about "changes", but still nothing important happened!
I hope that Obama is going to put pressure on his cabinet, so that the Americans can see what happens around them!
The "world crisis" is responsible for the very bad job-situation!
American, german and elected officials from other nations tell that the people should spend money, but WE DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY!
Globalisation destroyed so much; politicians have to be responsible for the mistakes they made in the past!
China and other parts of Asia should not be ripped of by industry, politics and other persons in charge!

Thank you very much!

Amongst Child Advocacy groups that have long advocated Health Care Reform, a growing number are now campaigning against the Democratic leaderships and President Obama's proposed legislation. Child advocacy groups, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and First Focus, supporters of the CHIP program now oppose the currently drafted Health Care Reform legislation due to the reduction of benefits to be imposed upon low-income children.

So sad - nothing changes.
He talked a lot about change and what he would do, but politics aren't a one-man-show. Now he learned it the hard way, sadly the americans to.
